Most TEKFAB lines run profiles that live in a standard — drywall stud to AISI S220, strut channel to trade practice, PEMB purlin to MBMA. But a meaningful share of TEKFAB engineering goes into profiles that fit none of them: a custom angle, a custom hat channel, a channel with a specific lip geometry, a one-off section for a one-off OEM end use.

This is the work Halmos names in Chapter 9, "Designing Products for Roll Forming." The customer arrives with a sketch, a yield target, a length distribution, and a throughput number. TEKFAB engineering classifies the section, runs the pass-schedule analysis, sizes the mill, selects the tooling, and quotes the line.

The output is not always a brand-new mill. Often it's a custom tooling set for an existing TEKFAB envelope, or a rebuild of a customer's legacy line to bring a new profile online — the judgment call is which subsystems already exist and which need to be engineered fresh.
